Rays 5 – White Sox 1

The Tampa Bay Rays challenged the the Chicago White Sox yesterday at Tropicana Field with the Rays triumphant 5 to 1. It was a thrilling night of baseball that anyone with Rays tickets will definitely cherish.

Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann (2.37 ERA) got the win, while Gavin Floyd (6.02 ERA) took the loss for the White Sox. Jeff Niemann went 8 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 3 hits, one home run and one earned run with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Randy Choate (7.71), and Dan Wheeler (2.16). The White Sox’s starter Gavin Floyd went 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 5 strikeouts. Scott Linebrink (4.42) also pitched for the White Sox. With the win, Niemann’s record goes to 5-0, while Floyd falls to 2-5.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Rays managed 7 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The White Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The White Sox mustered one run, 4 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Bill Miller, Chad Fairchild, Mike Reilly and Eric Cooper. There were 13,299 Rays ticket holders in attendance at Tropicana Field.
