Rays take close one from Blue Jays

The Tampa Bay Rays got a tough win over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday at Rogers Centre with the Rays picking up the W 7 to 6. It was one heck of a game that folks with Rays tickets aren’t likely to forget. Baseball isn’t the only game in town. See what other cheap sports tickets are out there.

Rays pitcher Grant Balfour (1.93 ERA) got the win, while Kevin Gregg (4.50 ERA) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Jeff Niemann went 6.1 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 9 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with one walk and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Randy Choate (6.43). The Blue Jays’s starter Brian Tallet went 5.2 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Casey Janssen (4.98), Jason Frasor (4.64), Shawn Camp (2.48), Scott Downs (2.96), and Rommie Lewis (3.52) also pitched for the Blue Jays. With the win, Balfour’s record goes to 1-1, while Gregg is at 0-2. Rafael Soriano earned the save for the Rays, bringing his saves up to 15.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Rays scored 10 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Reid Brignac had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. Fred Lewis had the most hits for the Blue Jays (3), followed by Lyle Overbay (2), and Vernon Wells (2). The Blue Jays managed 6 runs, 12 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Angel Hernandez, Paul Schrieber, Dan Bellino and Joe West. There were 13,439 Blue Jays ticket holders in attendance at Rogers Centre.
