Wow! What a game you saw last night if you had Tampa Bay Rays tickets, when James Shields threw a no hitter for the WIN_TEAM!! Rays pitcher James Shields (4.54 ERA) got the win, while CC Sabathia (3.19 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. James Shields went 7.1 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Chad Qualls (8.15). The Yankees’s starter CC Sabathia went 6.2 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Kerry Wood (6.00), and Chad Gaudin (6.49) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Shields’s record goes to 10-9, while Sabathia falls to 13-5. Rafael Soriano earned the save for the Rays, bringing his saves up to 30.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Rays managed 9 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Reid Brignac had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Yankees mustered no runs, 5 hits and no errors.
